Postdoctoral positions at the University of Toronto

Applications are invited for Postdoctoral Positions in the Physics Department at the University of Toronto for Theoretical Research in the Science and Applications of Photonic Crystals. Qualified candidates must have a Ph.D. with background in condensed matter physics, quantum optics, applied mathematics, and/or photonics. Successful candidates will engage in full time research with Prof. Sajeev John in light-matter interactions in photonic crystals and light localization effects. Applications to light trapping for solar energy harvesting and photovoltaics are of major interest. In this case, there is also the possibility of carrying out fabrication and other experimental work in the collaborating lab of Prof. Shawn Lin. Other topics include all-optical logic on a chip, excitonic lasing, and quantum optics. Familiarity with numerical and computational methods is required. A more detailed description of recent research can be found at john. Successful candidates are also expected to have strong communication skills in order to interact effectively with graduate students and collaborating international experimental groups. The normal duration of these appointments is 2-3 years, renewable on a yearly basis. Interested candidates should send their CV and arrange for three letters of reference to be sent to :
