Opening for a post-doc position : 2D localization of classical waves – a numerical study with COMSOL

The position is open at the University of Fribourg (Switzerland), in the group of Prof. Scheffold, for 1 year with a possibility for extension. We plan on using the FEM toolbox of COMSOL-multiphysics numerical platform to simulate the time-dependent excitation and propagation of THz electromagnetic fields in a 2D random medium. The goal of the project is to describe Anderson localization of THz-light in a 2D random waveguide. The present (numerical) project will be carried out in parallel with an experimental project at the University of Bern in the frame of the LiMAT collaboration [see P. Peier et al., "Imaging of THz waves in 2D photonic crystal structures embedded in a slab waveguide", New J. Phys. 12, 013014 (2010)]. The successful candidate should have a background of excellence in physics and numerical studies. Knowledge of a programming language is a requirement.
