PhD studentship in theoretical physics of quantum gases in Lausanne

We invite applications for a PhD studentship in the Laboratory of Theoretical Physics
of Nanosystems of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL) in Lausanne,
Switzerland. The studentship would start in May 2011 or later and would last four
years
.

A suitable candidate should have a M.Sc., or a related degree, in physics, with good
knowledge of quantum many-body physics, statistical physics and theory of critical
phenomena. Knowledge and practice of numerical methods is also required.

The research is on quantum gases and their critical phenomena in low dimensionality.
In particular, the topics of quantum phase transitions in presence of an external
disorder potential, and the corresponding kinetics, will be addressed. Theoretical
research will be carried out using various many-body approaches, from many-body
perturbation theory to quantum Monte Carlo simulations. We offer a very stimulating
environment in one of the world’s highest rank universities, outstanding research
facilities, and a very attractive salary.

Interested candidates are advised to apply as soon as possible and should send a CV,
giving details of the qualifications and experience, and the names and contact details
of two referees.
