Professor position at the University of Manitoba

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Manitoba invites applications for a fulltime, tenure track position at the Assistant Professor level in Experimental Condensed Matter and Materials Physics. The position begins July 1, 2016 or as soon as possible thereafter. Experimental Condensed Matter and Materials Physics (CMMP) is identified as a top priority in our Department’s recent Strategic Plan and is tightly linked with the strategic research priority of Materials Science at the University, and the Manitoba Institute for Materials (MIM).

We are especially interested in candidates whose research interests could strengthen the existing research areas in CMMP in our Department : nanoscale physics, graphene, contemporary magnetism, spintronics, wave physics, and ultracold quantum gases. However, strong applicants in any area of CMMP are encouraged to apply. This appointment is expected to create a critical mass of CMMP faculty, well-positioned to take advantage of future inter- and multi-disciplinary calls for funding.
Applicants must have a doctoral degree, relevant postdoctoral experience, and an outstanding record of research and scholarship in CMMP. Candidates are expected to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching. They will be expected to establish a vigorous, externally funded research program, to supervise graduate students, and participate actively in service to the Department and the wider academic community.

Applications must include a curriculum vitae including a list of publications, a highlight of significant research accomplishments, an indication of short and intermediate term goals of the proposed research program (addressing possible linkages with current experimental and theoretical CMMP research at the University of Manitoba), a statement of teaching interests and philosophy, and an estimate of start-up funding requirements.

Review of applications will begin February 15, 2016, and will continue until the position is filled. Complete applications, together with contact information (including email addresses) for three referees, should be sent to :
