Postdoctoral opening in Exeter

College of Engineering, Mathematics and Physical Sciences of University of Exeter wishes to recruit a Research Fellow to support the work of Dr Jacopo Bertolotti. This post is available from 01 September 2016 for 24 months. The project will develop novel techniques for imaging in turbid and scattering media. In particular the aim is to exploit the correlations of laser speckle to extract information from scattered light and thus retrieve the image of an object hidden inside or behind a scattering medium. The project will have a fundamental physics part, where the novel techniques will be developed, and a more applied part, where the techniques will be applied to bio-imaging problems.

The post will include the theoretical and experimental study of speckle correlations, the design and alignment of the measurement apparatus(es), and the data analysis of the results. Furthermore, the successful applicant will be expected to be able to work independently and will be encouraged to develop his/her own research ideas in parallel with helping PhD and Master students with their projects.

The successful applicant will be able to present information on research progress and outcomes, communicate complex information, orally, in writing and electronically and prepare proposals and applications to external bodies.

Applicants will possess a PhD in Physics or a related subject and be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge in the discipline and of research methods and techniques to both work within established research programmes, and develop a novel and original research line.
