Offre de postdoc au Laboratoire GéoAzur

Postdoctoral position at Geoazur in Sophia Antipolis

We are looking for a postdoc with knowledge of wavelet theory, who will be engaged in the large ERC-funded GLOBALSEIS project, in particular in the following research activities :
- the development of underwater robots ("Mermaids") that analyse acoustic signals for the occurrence of an earthquake wave arrivals and
- the development of wavelet-based regularization techniques for global seismic tomography.

For the development of robots, the succesful applicant will work with an engineer responsible for the technical development of underwater acoustic floats, be conducting tests and collect ocean acoustic noise data, analyse their variability and develop algorithms for the automatic detection of P-wave arrivals with low signal/noise ratio. For the tomography problem the postdoc will work within a small group led by Guust Nolet.
The project involves collaborations with Ingrid Daubechies and Frederik Simons at Princeton University. This is a one-year position that can be extended once, depending on performance. Requirements : PhD and some experience in signal processing using wavelets and/or seismic tomography. Suggested starting date September 2009.

For more information, please contact Guust Nolet
